Description of the California guinea pig
The California breed (or California) is one of the newly developed guinea pig breeds that has yet to be recognized.
We even managed to find a breed standard on the vastness of the foreign Internet, which means that in some countries work is actively underway.
Californian guinea pigs have a distinctive color — solid color with dark pigment on the nose, ears and feet and dark “glasses” around the eyes.
The monochromatic color of Californian pigs can be different in color — white, cream, buff, saffron, gold and red.
California guinea pigs are very similar to Himalayan guinea pigs . The same smooth-haired, with dark pigment. , but with one significant difference — they have dark eyes, while the Himalayan pigs have red.
Unlike Himalayan guinea pigs, California points can be not only black or chocolate, but also purple and beige. Also, with the combination of the Himalayan c (h) c (h) genes and the California gene, the pig phenotypically looks like the Himalayan, but with less pronounced points.
There is an opinion that the main difference between Californian guinea pigs and Himalayan ones is dark eyes (in the latter they are red), but in fact, Californian guinea pigs may well have red eyes.
The difference between Himalayan pigs and California is in genes. The Himalayans are derived from the combination of two clearing genes c (h) c (h), which must be obtained from both parents. California is a dominant gene that can overlap with any color.
